Your texts and files

• The texts you compare are sent to our server over an encrypted connection, compared, and not stored. We don't read them and don't share them.
• Word, Excel and PDF files you open are converted to text in memory and not stored either; only the text is sent back to your browser.
• If you email a comparison, it is sent through our email provider to the address you enter. We don't keep a copy. A PDF you download is made on the fly and not stored.
• To keep the service fast and working, we log technical facts about comparisons, such as the length of the texts, how long comparing took, your browser and your country. These logs never contain your texts and are deleted after 14 days.
• Like every website, our web server logs requests (IP address, the page asked for, browser) for security and troubleshooting. These logs are also deleted after 14 days.

Your account

• Email address, to log you in with an email link and to send you receipts and important messages about your subscription. We don't send newsletters unless you ask for them.
• Google sign-in: if you log in with Google, Google tells us your email address and first name. We don't get your password or access to your Google account.
• Passkeys: we store the public part of a passkey and a name for the device. The private part never leaves your device.
• Your preferred language, and how often you used each free try of a Pro feature this month.

We keep your account until you ask us to delete it. Email us and we'll delete it, except for payment records we have to keep by law (see below).

Payments

Payments are handled by Stripe. Your card or bank details go straight to Stripe and never reach us. We store what we need for your subscription and our bookkeeping: the plan, the amounts, the VAT rate and country, and the status of each payment. Dutch tax law requires us to keep these records for 7 years.

Feedback

If you send us feedback, we receive your message and email address by email so we can reply. The feedback form uses Google reCAPTCHA to keep spam out.

Cookies and storage in your browser

• Necessary: a session cookie (keeps you logged in, and remembers your choices; up to a year, 30 days once you log in), a security cookie against forged requests, and a language cookie.
• Our own statistics and experiments: one cookie with a random number. We use it to count how many comparisons visitors make per month and from which country, and to try out different versions of the site, for example different prices. It doesn't contain your name, IP address or texts, and is not shared with anyone.
• In your browser only: your dark mode setting, and, for up to an hour when you log in to try a Pro feature, the texts you were comparing, so they're still there when you come back. This never leaves your device.
• Advertising: if you don't have Pro, our advertising partner use cookies to show ads. You choose what you allow in the consent banner; see "Advertising" below.

Who helps us

These companies process data for us, only for the purposes above:

• DigitalOcean: our servers and database.
• Mailgun: sending email (login links, receipts, emailed comparisons).
• Stripe: payments.
• Google: Google sign-in and reCAPTCHA.
• Ezoic and its partners: ads, for visitors without Pro.

Some of them are based in the United States. Transfers there are covered by the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or by the EU's standard contractual clauses.

Why we may use your data

To provide the service you ask for (your account, your subscription, sending a comparison by email); because the law requires it (bookkeeping); in our legitimate interest to keep the site secure and working, and to improve it (logs, our own statistics); and, for advertising cookies, because you gave consent.

Your rights

You can ask us to see, correct, delete or export your personal data, or object to how we use it. Email (aktivieren Sie JavaScript, um die E-Mail-Adresse zu sehen). You can also withdraw your consent for advertising cookies in the consent banner at any time. If you think we're not handling your data properly, please tell us; you can also complain to the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
